The Brief
Arkley is a beautiful leafy residential area in North London. Our client owns a fantastic plot of land where he previously housed an out-building with a very large but outdated gym with a spa area. The building however was very much in need of some repairs and a general upgrading – not just aesthetically but also functionally. The spa area was no longer operational and the client ultimately chose to replace it with a guest room and a cinema area.
Planning Process
The first stage of the process involved many internal architectural changes, building repairs, and renovations. We worked very closely with our selected building team to ensure that all the services were upgraded to the highest standards. This not only included the installation of a new heating and ventilation system but also a new sound system. During the early stages of the discussion, the client was not very sure how he wanted to divide or use the space. 3D drawings were instrumental in helping him visualize and approve a final floor plan
How it went
The project run very smoothly, on time, and on budget. The brief was mainly functional with the client only giving us a few pointers in terms of design style. We were effectively given a free hand to develop an interior that fitted within his budget and design preference
Issues / Problems overcome During The Project
One of the principal challenges with this project was the fact that it was implemented during COVID times. In addition, a large amount of storage was required as a main house overflow storage. We managed to seamlessly integrate it as part of the gym design features. We not only managed to store the main items but created additional storage for future requirements. One structural aspect of the job was working with an old industrial-style staircase that had to be completely re-engineered with wood and glass to fully integrate it with the design style. The client is absolutely thrilled with the new interior, they absolutely love it!
